Mart Alexander was chosen as the new chairman of the Republican Party at a Saturday gathering in the commissioners room. Described as a strong party worker, he is noted for being a good mixer and advocates for full Republican policies.
James Burkhart declares through the Smithville News that he has not applied for the postoffice and does not intend to. The previous report stating he did apply was in error.
Damon Humphery the 3 months old son of Mr. and Mrs Homer Humphery died yesterday morning from suspected strangulation after turning face down. The infant had a cold with croup tendencies but was not thought seriously ill. Parents found him near death, a physician arrived too late, and the funeral was held at 1:30 this afternoon.
Dr. Jackson comments on a glib boy at Harley Easts and locals discuss weekly happenings. Many social calls, visits, and departures across Bloomington Harrodsburg Lafayette and Milltown, with engagements at W C T U and telephone staff changes. Notable names include Maude Kentling Ed Fish Lily Butcher Grace Hainey France Wooden N B Stephens Alice Hainey and Cecil Carmichael. R W Johnson announces debts before March 15.
A rumor says ex postmaster Johnson will leave Green County around March 15 to become county treasurer Weaver’s deputy in Bloomington. If true, taxpayers may soon pay those taxes to him rather than buy stamps.
Absentees for the week include Daisy Deckard, Etta Parker, Grace Stanley, Ethel Wooden, Muriel Trisler, Anna Updegraff, Carl Frantz, Fred Trsler and Ola Bothin. Friday the floors were oiled by Trustee Sherlock with Jas Girtman and Ora Wooden. Mrs. Chas Deckard visited Primary and Intermediate rooms Tuesday.

The U S Civil Service Commission announces a fourth class post master examination scheduled for February 19 1910 in Bloomington Indiana for Smithville Indiana post office. Applicants must reside in the office area and be 21 or older. 18 year old women may be admitted where statutes permit. Applications must be filed with the commission in Washington within seven days of the exam.
