Death of Iver L Opsal at 79 in Sisseton

Iver L Opsal died at his son Ole’s home in the city at 9 30 Saturday after a stroke on Thursday. Born in Vallers Norway in 1840 he moved to America in 1872 with his wife Martha. He leaves ten children and is buried in Sisseton Cemetery after services at the Lutheran church led by Rev Rudie.

Browns Valley Fair Fails to Meet Hopes and Promises

The Browns Valley Fair last week disappointed attendees as the carnival company failed to appear after the fair association had hired them. Little was offered beyond noisy hot dog vendors and minor gambling devices. Livestock was decent led by a Hereford from Nankemann Bros., and Adam Greeley of Peever won the Ford prize.

Minneapolis man Rog ers linked to Slayton murder and escape

The Minneapolis Tribune reports the capture of J. Rogers of Minneapolis linked to the murder of J. G. Larson of Slayton Minn. Larson was beaten into unconsciousness and robbed, his car driven nearly 40 miles before the body was found in a cornfield near Glencoe. Detectives traced Rogers, who allegedly confessed to the robbery and killing with another man in uniform. Larson’s car was found abandoned at Bisseton South Dakota. Sj eyewitnesses and officials describe efforts across states until Rogers was located in Glendive Montana. The body was returned to Slayton for burial with state and local officials involved.

Call For Prompt School Enrollment To Boost Attendance

In September or early October school starts and parental help is urged to enroll children immediately. The state department warns late enrollment wastes funds and harms seventh and eighth graders. Teachers must report within two weeks, and enforcement of the compulsory attendance law will be stricter for ages 8 to 16 under the Americanization Act.

College Will Exhibit At South Dakota State Fair

The extension and experimental divisions of State college plan extensive exhibits at the State fair next week in the Agricultural hall Education building dairy building and horticultural hall. The extension division will show county farm bureau work specialists and boys and girls clubs. College departments including agronomy veterinary home economics engineering school of agriculture entomology horticulture and dairy will run demonstrations. Free agricultural movies will be shown all day in a special dark tent.
