A county court hearing in Monday proceedings by John Martinosn’s mother and half-brothers sought to set aside the will alleging fraud by executor M. J. Austen and lack of mental capacity. The judge upheld the will pending appeal, with circuit court likely to review.
A party led by Judge Batterton departs Sisseton and tours Long Hollow Coteaux des Prairies White Stone lakes and Eden Park. Caton Hoblett of Clark county South Dakota known as the heavyweight from the west weighing 512 pounds was killed in San Angelo Texas by a Mexican. Hoblett, an early Clark county settler, traveled with a four team wagon outfit that family loaded onto a wagon via a ramp. He and family had moved to Texas a year earlier for a yearlong visit.

The Department of Agriculture has launched a campaign to curb wood waste. It notes that about 25 percent of cut wood never exits forests, 5 percent is wasted in firewood, and 70 percent of cooperage stock becomes waste. The plan aims to push big wood using firms to produce hi products and use lower grade wood.
All campaign expenses including primaries would become public record if the senate committee's bill becomes law. The bill goes farther than house measures, with the Lorimer case cited as fueling the senate’s stance.
Colonel Goethals says it takes about eighteen months to readjust canal rates and that the canal will reopen for commerce within two years. He urges Congress to fix toll charges promptly to avert trade disruption.
The South Dakota Supreme Court reverses Judge Bottum and orders judgment for O H Jones in the Jones vs Roberts County dispute over salary as county superintendent of schools.
