Caton Hoblett of Clark county South Dakota known as the heavyweight from the west weighing 512 pounds was killed in San Angelo Texas by a Mexican. Hoblett, an early Clark county settler, traveled with a four team wagon outfit that family loaded onto a wagon via a ramp. He and family had moved to Texas a year earlier for a yearlong visit.

Department of Agriculture campaigns on wood waste

The Department of Agriculture has launched a campaign to curb wood waste. It notes that about 25 percent of cut wood never exits forests, 5 percent is wasted in firewood, and 70 percent of cooperage stock becomes waste.
