Fourth of July Celebration in Sisseton Promises Variety

No. 2 Fourth of July celebration in Sisseton under the American Society of Equity with a 10 o'clock parade. Afternoon events include horse and pony races, steeplechase, foot races, baseball, a bowery dance, and an Indian war dance and basket picnic at the fair grounds. The Sisseton band will perform periodically.

Sisseton Gun Club Meet and Chautauqua Preview

June record for Sisseton gun club shows RW peque with Bestautent 24 by Adkins. A Sisseton Webster shoot at Pickerel Lake was postponed until after the Fourth. Simpson Park Chautauqua plans ninth annual assembly July 2–15 with lectures by Judge Lindsey and Governor Crawford among others, plus musical acts and readers. Indian payments at Sisseton Agency continue, $42.20 per person, easing local market strain.

Three Hard Jolts In Crawford Machine Week

The Crawford machine faced three setbacks in week one. Indiana limestone won the capitol contract, validating railroad demands for long hauls. Veterans elected Thomas Dejean as commander in the governor’s town, after he was ousted from the soldier’s home board. A new insurgent printing panel renewed the printing contract with Harley McLeod and John Longstaff, who had bid best in the past.

McLeod Girl Born June Sixteen to James and Mrs McLeod

A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs James McLeod on June 16. In other news Clara Lund wed Kid Loken at Broondrald church near Vernon on June 12 with Rev Rudie presiding and a wedding dinner at the bride’s home following.

Wreck near Ortley disrupts Cannonball train

Last Wednesday morning the Cannonball derailed half a mile west of Ortley after the engine jumped the track. The engine landed back on rails and went to Waubay, fourteen cars left the track, some cars smashed into timber, the bridge damaged. Only two passengers aboard sustained minor bruises.
