Royal Wedding Brings Hope Amid Royal Tragedy
The royal wedding of King Alfonso and the new queen of Spain is overshadowed by a terrible afternoon accident that nearly caused their deaths. The ceremony featured the young heir Prince Alfonso in white silk knickerbockers and a diverse array of envoys including Frederick W. W. Rid ge, a Moroccan envoy, and a Chinese mandarin. The king's tender moment with the bride and her mother contrasted with the visible grief and the democratic gesture of inviting poor gallery spectators.
