Lightning Burns Two Barns in Local Storms
The Julius Aasness farm barn in Goodwill township burned from lightning Tuesday night. Tenant Christ Johnson lost feed and gear. total loss about 1000 dollars with 530 dollars insured. A window sash was hurled over 60 feet. A second barn on the Louis Joist farm near Windom burned the same night, likely worth about 1500 dollars.

Close Run For Seattle Alderman Fails Among Jenkins runoff
Former townsman George J. Jenkins was a candidate to fill Seattle’s city council vacancy. After 177 ballots and a tied vote at 176, both Jenkins and his rival were defeated and a new alderman chosen.

Untimely Death Of Local Child From Fire
Mr and Mrs Paul Levert near town endure the death of their five year old daughter who perished after catching fire while alone upstairs. The blaze started when she found matches and in moments her clothing ignited. Neighbors heard screams and extinguished the flames but medical aid could not save her.

Civic League Notes Brightens Sisseton Cleanup Efforts
The Civic League met in Commercial Club rooms on Tuesday June 2 to urge timely cleanup and alleys kept clean. They adjourned to meet July 7 and hope alleys are cleaned by then. J. C. Frandsen visited from Eftington on business.

Honor Old Soldiers Decoration Day Observed Across Town
A bright Decoration Day featured a 10 am parade led by Capt. Kelly and Lieut. Strand, with the Sisseton band, Relief Corps ladies, G. A. R. members and others. After a ceremony at the cemetery a baked bean dinner followed, then a Busy Bee Club program. An afternoon event at the New Grand included readings, songs, Lincoln Gettysburg address by Lloyd Peterson, and a moving tribute to Lincoln with Miss Bonnie Andrews speaking.
