Ice Cream Profit Probe Focuses On State Investigation
The state agriculture department will probe profits in ice cream sales as officials reveal findings from a combined inquiry into retailers and manufacturers. A. H. Ives admitted price descriptions were correct but cited idle equipment and high commodity costs as constraints on price reductions. The report cites high markups on sundae prices and syrups made in shops, with roving calculations showing profits from 325 to 375 percent per quart depending on serving size and pricing.

Gold Still Floods Us Why Is It
Frances H. Sisson explains why gold imports into the United States surged since January. He notes a rising stock to 3.175 billion by June and ongoing monthly imports totaling about 400 million, largely held by Federal Reserve Banks, with no clear inflationary effect yet. The piece argues imports reflect limited export credit and calls for better financing of exports to reduce gold outflows.
