Robins Escapes Jail By Sawing Bar In Claire City

George Robins, held on parole violation and auto theft tied to an incident near Claire City, escaped from jail Monday by sawing a bar in the window. Langager, his partner, planned to escape but was foiled by D F Stevens and Laten Teare. Sheriff Baker and deputies searched through the night. Robins remains missing as authorities press the case.

Potatoes Yield Enormous Crop

J. E. Pitts of eight miles west of Sisseton visited town Saturday with samples of his farm grown potatoes. One half acre in the over bearing variety yielded 225 bushels, and the largest potato weighed 3½ pounds with a nineteen inch circumference. He is selling seed pieces of these high yielding potatoes.

Surprise Birthday Party for Mrs Humphner

Mrs Hubert Humphner was surprised Saturday afternoon when fifteen ladies gathered at her home for her birthday. They shared food and music with the main feature being Mrs Wilcox singing her new song Nell and I. A delicious lunch followed at five o'clock before guests departed wishing many happy returns.

Reception Given Reverend Vang Tuesday Evening

Members of the Mutha League Latdies Aid congregation and friends of Goodwill Lutheran church held a Tuesday evening reception for Rev Vang at the church. A Sunday school teacher meeting occurred at the parsonage while preparations went on. The program featured choir selections a saxophone solo by Dr Sorbel and a piano duet. A lunch followed with toast remarks. Theodora Mannes presented Rev Vang a purse of over 100 dollars, which he gratefully accepted.

Girls Basketball Season Impresses With Strong Record

The team posted twelve wins and one defeat by a close margin on tough floors, won the district championship decisively, and outscored opponents 275 to 85. Exhibitions vs Alumni added 22 to 4. Beginning with only two holdovers, Iona Satre and Mabel Stavig, the squad developed through rigorous practice focusing on passing, shooting, and jumping, earning fan praise for floor work and speed.

Deputy Returns With Ed Lewis From Montana

Deputy returns with Ed Lewis from Montana after arrest on a charge by August Jenson of New Effington. A $100 draft dated Dec 10, 1920, payable to Bank of New Elington and drawn to Smith Flynn Commission Co., was found worthless. Lewis resisted extradition, causing delay.

Dierling Sells Out to J. M. Goodrich

J. M. Goodrich of Milbank has acquired the H. Dierling Cigar factory here. The new owner will assume May first, moving his family later this month and relocating the plant to the Dady building with increased capacity and an expanded workforce. Dierling, who began the business eight months ago, departs for Hartford Beach after a Minnesota-Wisconsin trip, leaving behind many friends and a growing local enterprise.

Speculator Hit Hard by New Lineup Plan

Robert Fuller reports for Standard on April 8 that the Farm Bureau Federation adopted a grain marketing plan forming a National Grain Growers Cooperative Sales Agency. The plan aims to contract with local farmers and elevators, with a $100 million capitalization, to market grain through district centers and a farmer controlled finance and export structure. Bern ard Baruch and Herbert Hoover endorsed the plan, which seeks to stabilize prices and give farmers direct control over grain sales.
