Fifty second enlistment drive under local recruitment plan
Sargeant Beach and Sargeant Shirley Beach return from Camp Thomas Chickamauga with a squad to recruit in the state for the Fifty second. A recruiting station opens at Sheldon to fill quotas from counties lacking service members. Recruits will be sent to the regiment as six men complete and be assigned on arrival.

Republicans and Democrats Hold Separate Conventions in Lu Mans
In Lu Mans I A June 14 the Republican judicial converte met at 2 p m in the opera house with William Conniff of Sioux City as temporary chairman and B C Roach of Rock Rapids named as permanent chair. David Mould of Sioux City was withdrawn. Republicans renominated Wakefield Gaynor Oliver Hutchinson. Democrats met with J D F Smith of Cherokee presiding and Gaynor nominated to succeed himself. The Woodbury delegation failed to oppose the Republicans and the convention adjourned.
