A midweek baseball game saw Hospers beat Orange despite five errors and weak fielding. Alton Baker township players fought hard, with key hits keeping the score close, while a Wednesday home incident involving Mrs Haverkamp noted a forthcoming marriage of Anna Haverkamp to Al Roslofs of Ogden.
Arrangements for the teachers institute underway this week. Mrs Phillip Palmer of Schaller and Mrs S Graham of Onslow visit with their brother John E Orr. Howard Melrose to Nebraska City with family, expected home by week end. Frances Wright of Council Bluffs returned home. Mrs M B E Holmes leaves for Delaware county for several weeks. Nic Balkema Jerry Kendrick John Hollander of Sioux Center in town on business. Miss Dunck of Milwaukee visiting. Mary Goddard returns from Clear Lake outing. T. district convention held in Hawarden drew about fifty delegates and visitors from Rock Valley Hartley Ocheyden Grant Lawarden Spencer Summersland Sheldon Ashton Ireton Akron Westfield Peterson Paulina Sanborn Boyden Lake Park Merrill and Harris. Noted speakers and leaders praised hospitality while a debate challenge to the whiskey side failed. Elections elected officers for the coming year and district degree was conferred on eighteen members. Resolutions urged abolition of intoxicating liquor traffic and condemned revenue policies tied to alcohol. The state summer assembly will be at Humboldt August 14 to 21 with notable attractions. Delegates to Grand Lodge named including J N Kingle W D Sturlbut and W A Green.
The Sioux County Iowa Board of Supervisors will in September 1899 canvass and count the petition for consent to sell intoxicating liquors on file with the county auditor to determine sufficiency under Code section 2450. After notice, Wa Dray and E DeMorg as chairmen and county auditor oversee the process.
