Lex McDonald and Arphie McDonald lead crews at Comstock and Lemon Creek claims while Angus McIonis ferries to Vancouver projects. Supervisors, prospectors, and investors including Y.C. Button and W. Robertson push tunnels, ledges, and assay work across Malvan, Fire Fly, Ottawa Bay, Mowich, Fidelity, and Homeplate veins, with notable ore returns and new developments near Galena and Reed and Robison spow-lide.
E Rammnelmeyer, manager of Emily Edith mine, reports a ten foot wide trail from Alpha Road via J I C Silverton Bay Arena Fraction and Jennie Jones claims linking to the old California mine sleigh road. The route can be widened to a wagon road to ship ore when mining begins. Silverton offers ore handling, wagons, pack trains, packers, and a harbor for ore barges in all weather.
Ten Mile creek properties see active work as the Fairy Queen group also called the Brindle group shows a fine exposure. Oregon City claim workers assess, Slug-Ten Crown to resume soon with assays up to 300 ounces silver per ton. Enterprise mine expected to operate full force before July 1 with heavy shipments anticipated. A list of minerals and gems follows. Howard West notes B C Mining Engineers meeting planned for early July at Roseland with Mr Carlyle of B C Corporation as president.
Howard Elking of St John New Brunswick, a mining man with strong local reputation, will visit Silverton in a few days to explore promising properties around town. An Arkansas editor adds a satirical list of seasonal harms and legal-evasion quips, noting exaggerated fates for book agents and other groups.
An Ice Cream Social will be held at Knox Church New Denver on Monday evening June 18. Social begins at 5 pm with a programme and refreshments. All are cordially invited to attend. Also noted: air pipes delivered at the wharf for the Comstock mine. A New York presses writer remarks on Spain’s war as long as Havana backs it.
The Independent Electors convention in Silverton selects Robert F. Green as the unanimous candidate to represent the Slocan riding. Green pledges to serve all parts of the riding, visit sections during recesses, and push provincial interests beyond party lines. He notes deep ties to the Kootenays and mining and commercial interests.
Independent electors of Silverton met at McKinnon’s Hall on Tuesday. Delegates nominated to attend Thursday’s Sondon convention were G. Thorburn, J. Bowes, W. Hunter, E. O. Nelson, R. O. Matheson, and A. McDonald. Balloting elected Hunter, Bowes, Thorburn, and Matheson. delegates were uninstructed. Meeting poorly attended due to short notice. J. Gordon chaired and R. O. Matheson was secretary.
Captain Moore, a prominent mining operator revered across the Slocan region and broader American mining districts, died last week in Spokane. He was widely regarded as fearless and skilled, a steadfast community figure and goodman.
A prominent figure in Michigan s iron region known as the Iron King died recently. He earned and lost millions in the iron industry and managed the Idaho mine until shortly before his death. He owned properties near Florence and is survived by a widow and three children.
The Province suggests Robert Green as a potential opposition candidate in Kaslo would likely win. It calls him a good Canadian, a Conservative, a clever fellow with many friends and notes Kaslo voters regard him as one of the whitest men who ever breathed.
H H Knox and George Davis visit Silverton from New Denver while Mias McQueen is moved to Sondon. Forty five voters list in Ex Silverton with F B Andrews appointed Returning Officer for the riding. Rosebery Works await material. Premier Turner slated for Slocan around the 20th and Rossland on the 15th. Trail plans Dominion Day festivities with new sports on Ugly 6th. 1898 election day set. Commencing on Wednesday June 1st services will be held every alternate Wednesday evening in the Union Church Silverton by the Rev. O F Yates Episcopalian minister. Service will be held in the Silverton Church on Sunday next at 3 p.m. Preacher C Haney B A. All are cordially invited.
