The Wakefield Company's Wakefield Mine and Concentrator near Silverton showcases a 100 ton daily capacity plant with 80 tons processed daily and 10 tons of concentrates. Hewitt Group Begins No 4 Tunnel at Deepest Ore Site

The Hewitt Group starts a fourth tunnel tapping ore bodies 400 feet below the surface apex, about 100 feet deeper than No 3. Operators anticipate a tramway to the mine and a wagon road from town this summer as development proceeds.

Old Maid claim ore ledge shows pay sulfide ore

The Old Maid tunnel near town extends 112 feet with a cross-cut revealing a 22 foot wide ledge filled with ore wall to wall. The vein, the district’s only well defined pay ore contact, lies with slate above and granite below. Ore contains iron sulfide with silver and small gold, values about 40. If held by a strong company a major shipping proposition could be developed soon.

Jack Thompson spent a few days in London. Mr and Mrs Yates plan to move into their new house next week. Allan Leslie of Montreal is among new arrivals. Chas McNicholls returns from Ontario greatly improved in health. Charley’s was warmly welcomed by friends on his return. John Scott and wife, parents of Wm Scott, visit for a few months. their home is in Perth Ontario. Alex Dodds, Mine foreman, heads to Ontario due to his mother’s illness. Ad Ward of London fills his place. Charles McLaughlin, nephew of Chas McNicholls, arrives and plans to settle in Silverton. Me McLaughlin joined the athletic circle. Hammond Bros of Sandon sell their freight outfit to L O Lane and depart for Cape Nome. friends present them with gifts.
