A satirical piece describes the Pekin Gazette as the emperor of China maintain ing a daily newspaper with a single copy posted outside the Purple city. It notes its official tone, absence of advertising, and the editor is the emperor with his mother as assistant. It also lists subscriber law notes and cautions.
The item notes that refusing a periodical from the office or leaving it uncalled is prima facie evidence of fraud. It states subscribers who pay in advance must give notice to stop. they remain liable until arrearages and notice reach the publisher. It also claims publishers can arrest nonpaying readers under new postal laws.

The Humboldt County Nevada Board of Equalization will meet on Monday September 1th 1608 to hear complaints on property assessments. The County Clerk will keep the assessment roll open for public inspection until adjournment. Sessions continue until business is finished but no sitting after the first Monday in October 188.
