Note Found by Architect Reveals Bank of England Loss

In 1740 a Bank of England director misplaced a £30009 note believed lost in a chimney. Thirty years later an unknown claimant demanded payment, the bank paid out, and the heirs faced no restitution. The note was later found hidden in the director’s former house, unearthed while building anew.
