In a Reno Journal opinion piece, authors criticize Republican tactics and press the fusion State ticket from top to bottom. They argue Farrington’s appointment and policies are flawed, while Newlands supports free coinage of gold and silver at 16 to 1. The piece urges Nevada voters to reject Republican plurality and vote for Bryan and Newlands in Humboldt County and statewide next Tuesday.
The Reno Gazette accuses the Democratic and Silver party press of avoiding issues, saying Nevada voters are misled as Republican papers attack Mr. Newlands. It alleges the GOP focus is vilification of Newlands rather than presenting legitimate arguments for McKinley and Farrington.
In a public dispute, Farrington accuses Francis G. Newlands of treachery toward Senator Stewart and the Silver party. A Virginia City convention resolution later exonerates Newlands, denounces Stewart, and calls for Stewart’s resignation as Nevada senator, while clearing Newlands of betrayal.
Griffin and five Humboldt transfers arrived in Elko seeking registration. Justice Morgan refused to register without oath of six months in state and thirty days in county. Griffin balked, transfers returned, threats of legal action followed. Paper warns registry agents to require oath to prevent alleged railroad driven colonization for party gains.
Dr H B McDonald sets up at Golconda Hot Springs hotel October 21 to November 4 and then at the Lafayette hotel Winnemucca for two weeks. Offers include gold bridges crowns and gold or silver fillings with a guarantee of first class work.
The text portrays Francis G Newlands linked with Silver as a steadfast ally once eight years prior, while Farrington and Stewart have abandoned Silver. It questions loyalty and alignment with the so called Gold Bug camp and asks if readers will follow the former allies.
