Rich silver ore from Philippines claimed near Manila

Captain McClelland of Company I, First South Dakota Volunteers, returning from the Philippines, reports a native’s claim of rich ore about ten miles from Manila. The ore assays at 1,400 ounces. Black Hills miners are interested and may send him back to prospect.

Detachments Disperse Native Bandits in Negros

Manila October 28 The Sixth Infantry has been active in Negros dispersing bandits. Captain Simons struck a Tulisanes village near San Carlos while Captain Evans defeated another band, killing ten and wounding and capturing twenty. No American losses reported.

Blacklisted employee loses his case in rail suit

By The Silver State's Leased Wire Chicago Oct 28 a jury found Joseph O Day not guilty in a $50 000 suit against the Chicago Northwestern and Wabash railways for alleged blacklisting following the 1894 A R U strike. The charges asserted a nationwide agreement among railroads to deny employment to strikers unless permission was granted by the last road of employment.
