Charleston South Carolina October 26 The Norwegian government secured the release today of two sailors held for murder after a wrecked Norwegian bark was driven ashore off the Florida coast. The crew of three raft survivors drew lots. two were rescued and the other died at sea. The men will be sent home.
The Mexican Ambassador reportes two Americans killed and two Mexican gendarmes wounded in a border clash at Avaco. Assurances of regret were given as steps were decided to send troops to restore peace. Secretary Root ordered a company from Fort Huachuca to Naco.
Frank A Vanderlip, chairman of the Dewey Home Committee, reports Admiral Dewey has written thanking the committee for presenting him with a house. He acknowledges receipt of the title deeds and asks the efforts of the countrymen be conveyed along with his heartfelt thanks.
Governor Roosevelt of New York arrived in Baltimore after a rapid thirty six hour drive through western Maryland. In Havana on October 26 a Spaniard named Lorenzo sought work at a Matanzas sugar estate. He was attacked by Cuban laborers with machetes and knives, receiving three head wounds before the estate manager and police intervened to save his life.
Mrs Hettie Gates, wife of a barber, alleged heir to 3 500 000 from an English uncle, is indicted for grand larceny in the second degree in Minneapolis. She secured unlimited credit for over a year from local tradesmen based on the supposed legacy, but investigators found no fortune.
Mary Brookings and Albert P Myer Christian Scientists were arraigned in Minneapolis on grand jury indictments charging them with practicing medicine without state licenses. They posted $200 bail. The case stems from their treatment of a diphtheria patient. Hood's Sarsaparilla ad copy follows.
