Two Large Companies Planned for Los Angeles & Salt Lake Rail Line

Two new corporations will extend the Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad. One aims to run Pacific steamships linking San Pedro with Hawaii and the Orient and coast steamers from Alaska to Mexico, plus a separate line for fast freight and passengers. The second would create a transportation and refrigerator line with refrigerator cars. Senator W A Clark notes $10,000,600 paid on the Salt Lake & Los Angeles project, with $25,000,000 capital. Construction will begin from both ends after contracts are awarded.

Nevada monitor launched at Bath Iron Works in Maine

The United States monitor Nevada, the largest government vessel built by Bath Iron Works, was launched at Bath Maine witnessed by many. Miss Annie C Boutelle christened the Nevada by breaking a champagne bottle across the bow. The vessel, about 75 percent complete, features a single turret and 252 by 50 feet with a 12 foot 6 inch draft and a contract speed of 11.5 knots.
