Crittenden Thornton a young lawyer appeared in Police Court on the 17th to answer grand larceny and assault and battery on an officer. The case arose from a stock dispute in the Coso Mining Company involving Gorman Sevenonk Hamilton and others. Judge Londerback dismissed the charges finding Deputy Holmes acted improperly and Thornton’s actions were lawful. A suit for false imprisonment by Thornton is expected next.
A 19th century correspondence from New Albany Ind requests freight and quality details on Humboldt Valley sulphur shipments to Louisville for mining interests. The item also notes 1878 trade dollar minting figures, contrasting with total preexisting silver dollar coinage to 1793.
