Admiralty cables report the cruiser Charleston wrecked on an uncharted reef off Luzon on November 2 with crew safe ashore on Kamiguine island. Major John A. Logan, nephew of the late General Logan, is reported killed in Luzon fighting with the Thirty-third Volunteer Infantry.
Pittsburg detectives arrested Stewart, a 60 year old alleged forger and confidence man, facing a Boston warranted case over a $3,000 swindle. He is said to belong to a nationwide banker workers gang and would be mistaken for a preacher rather than a criminal.
The body of C. R. Bugbee, about 40, a Colorado mining man from Denver who arrived a month ago, was found on Broadway between First and Second streets. An initial assessment suggested assault, but investigators concluded death resulted from heart disease with a head injury from a fall.
Louisville Ky Nov 14 The official Kentucky vote count progresses slowly with county returns still incomplete and many notices of contest expected. Bardstown saw a Republican suit demanding new certificates for W S Taylor after ballots printed as W P Taylor. Democrats challenge the 1098 votes as invalid while Republicans claim Taylor ahead by about 3184 votes. Goebel supporters concede but with no figures.
