Governor Collom vetoed the silver coin legal tender bill, deeming it unwise financially and unconstitutional. The Times notes silver remonetization favored by Hayes under cautious conditions. Decoration Day marked a nationwide holiday honoring the buried dead with widespread observance.
A foreign dispatch notes Russian Right wing positions at Nossidihaneck and Kaledagh with advance guards to Vex invajaan. Left wing at Utchkillissa 6000 strong, Turkish center near Loghamla Mountains. Reports conflicting on Ardahan recapture. Russians attack Batoam and Loxpow but are repulsed after ten hours of fighting.
The Derby was won by Sylvia with Glenarthur second and Rob Roy third. General Grant’s train will stop at Bedford en route from Manchester, where the Mayor and corporation will present an address. The London corporation is expected to grant him honorary freedom of the city.
