Funeral services for Fred Stauffer Jr were held at a Sacramento home and graveside, where a large cortege and many flowers marked his burial. Relatives and friends gathered as the body was laid to rest amid sorrowful tears.
Alfred Freel was found guilty of murder in the first degree for the killing of John Kensler at a Glenn's Ferry area ranch in October 1896. Kensler's widow Josie Kensler was later convicted of second degree murder as an accomplice. The pair dispensed whiskey, quarreled, and Freel shot Kensler, later burying the body and staging an alibi.
