French inventor M. Ernest Bazin unveils a steamship using six large wheel shaped rollers as support. The vessel moves by a screw while the rollers rotate, allegedly reducing water resistance and saving power. He claims ships on this roller design could reach thirty knots across the Atlantic on about 400 tons of coal versus current ships.
A vintage advertisement touts No-To-Bac as a miracle cure to quit smoking. It claims ease for “weeping” and lifelong life, urging readers to mail to Sterling Kennedy Cu in Chicago or New York for a booklet and samples, with price 50e or $1 and guarantee of cure.
A vintage advertisement claims Mrs Winslow's Soothing Syrup has soothed teething pains for over fifty years. It promises immediate relief from crying and distress, cures diarrhea, relieves stomach wind and colic, and tones the system. Sold by druggists worldwide for 25 cents per bottle.
