Elko Coal Mine Progress Report Promising Growth
A Wells Herald visit reports a shaft sixty feet deep with a seventy foot drift. The vein widens toward the end to a solid deposit of hard coal. Marketable coal in various sizes waited in the drift after a recent blast. Miners explore a new drift and a second shaft planned about 200 feet north to connect workings and descend to map the coal body. J H Bacon of Salt Lake visits and plans a steam hoist and larger operations.
