Dispatches from Manila say General McArthur and his army push toward the enemy amid scorching heat of about 90 to 100 degrees. Ninety six Filipino prisoners are escorted into Manila, and 500 rebels are moved near Bolacan and Gaiguinto to reinforce the garrison. The California Regiment battalion lands at Enrique, India of Negroes, and is greeted with joy by locals.
In Birmingham Alabama on March 28 tensions flare as Black miners resist the arrest of a comrade. A white man named Mack Chambers and another shooter exchange long range fire. Sheriff O’Brien reports thirty five arrests. Ringleaders, former members of the Third Alabama Colored Regiment, have urged the miners to avoid arrest. Work resumes at the mines under heavy deputy guard.
A $7 million preferred and $10 million common capital safe manufacturers combine is being organized in New York. A leading producer agreed to join at a recent meeting, signaling a major consolidation in the industry.
Harrisburg March 28 anti-Quay Republicans abandon favorite son plan and vote solid for Congressman John Dalzell of Pittsburg. The sixth ballot shows Quay 87 Jenks 69 Dalzell 104 with 207 needed. 46 absent. Supporters say anti-Quay move aids ex Senator, while Quay followers deny defections.
A Washington dispatch reports Admiral Dewey cabled the Department for additional forces. The move is seen as a plan to strengthen patrols of the Philippine Islands and deter filibustering expeditions.

In New York on March 28 eight charred bones were found in the debris of the Windsor Hotel on Forty Seventh Street. Officials recorded them as the thirty third unknown dead from the March 17 fire, with no determination of gender or age.
A three column Kansas City story reports arrest of a Kansas gang of robbers and murderers. Frank Allgood allegedly shot Joseph News two years ago in Greenwood county. News wife and George H Dobbs are imprisoned for the crime. Ballard, serving eight years for horse stealing, says Allgood and Turner plotted to convict the widow and Dobbs. Turner remains unfound. Ballard claims an organized gang operated in Southeastern Kansas.
A March snowstorm deepened across Kansas and parts of the south, with six inches in places. Oklahoma saw blizzard like conditions and sleet. The snow is expected to benefit the wheat crop in Kansas while fruit in the territories may suffer damage.
