Indian rescues mother and babe after husband abandons them
In winter weather Matthew Kelley tossed his wife and infant into deep snow and left them to perish. Silas, labeled the worst Indian in Muno county, found them and shielded the child while another Indian aided the mother to a neighbor’s house. Mrs Kelley, barefoot and in a nightgown, survived though in danger. Kelley was jailed and fined $100 or 50 days, deemed inadequate by the writer.
