Puttman Fears the Hangman Before Court

Yellow Fever Claims Many in Havana Report

General Brooke reports from Havana dated June 27 that yellow fever deaths include Privates James McCasley and Charles E. Rogers of the Fifth Infantry and Michal L. Fatal accident near Elsah claims several sailors

Five men were scalded when a steam flue collapsed on the steamer St. Paul near Elsah Illinois. Two men died in transit and another two, including a white sailor O C Thompson, were in grave condition at the city hospital. The remaining injured were colored firemen.

Black Puddlers for the White

White puddlers at Moorehead and Co in Sharpabang were discharged and replaced by negro workers brought in last night. The firm has affiliated with the Amalgamated Association and many puddlers recently joined the union. Four deputies accompanied the new workers amid quiet in the area.
