About sixty tons of copper matter have been shipped from the Excelsior Company's smelter in Mason valley. Anderson, mining engineer for the Philadelphia syndicate, predicts major activity at Tonopah. The Smuggler mine in Aspen uses an acetylene lamp for station and level sights. Coal mine work shows twelve feet of coal in face, incline at 140 feet.
Manager Joseph Hill of the Rodgers ranch distributed a vaccine claimed to exterminate mice damaging alfalfa. Mining activity rises around Unionville with many prospectors on the hill and work starting on old mines. W P Colvin and A E Lasher are associated with properties in the camp. Attorney M Bonnifield from Winnemucca aids the Lovelock Land and Development Company, which asserts water rights from Graveyard slough and has pressed lower valley ranchers. Hill owns a fifth interest in the Lovelock Co, which reclaims land by the lake, with stockholders Noteware Nixon Thies Lee Stoker and Hill. The company built six miles of ditch last year and holds about two thousand acres of wheat under cultivation, totaling five thousand acres under the ditch.
Assessor Guthrie from Winnemucca arrived Wednesday to spend ten days in Lovelock Valley assessing property. He reports the 2023 property valuation will nearly double under the new law. Old-rate assessments apply now, but the Board of Equalization in September will reduce rates to meet the new law.

An 19th century promotional note touts Kemp's Balsam as a guaranteed cure for consumption caught early by a harmless cough. It claims instant cure and relief for all cases with trial size free and pricing at 5 and 50 cents, sold by Brown Bros.
A wife fears bad luck as her wedding ring slips off and facial wasting sign from illness. The text touts Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription to treat weakness, inflammation, and ulcers, claiming it restores strength for mothers and improves vitality for the baby’s progress. A Hastings woman, Mrs John Cooke, credits the remedy along with Golden Vertical Discovery and Dr. Pierce's Pellets for her return to health.
