Two sections of No 4 westbound trains carried recruits to San Francisco with several miscreants insulting civilians at the depot. Deputy Sheriff Rose intervened after a young man slandered a lady and attempted to pull a Chinaman named Ace toward the train. The incident drew applause for the deputy.
