Conscience Fund Receives Longstanding U.S. Revenue Gifts
Clifford Howard cites Ladies Home Journal on the eighty five year history of Uncle Sam's conscience fund. Contributions from Americans have totaled over $800,000 by the present year with gifts ranging from cents to thousands. The smallest gift was a two cent stamp sent in 1896 after an unsealed photograph incident, and the largest was a $14,225.15 bill sent from London via a consular official for a person unnamed.
