The text describes anemia as starved blood showing in pale cheeks, white lips, weak digestion, loss of appetite, exhaustion, nerve weakness, and soft muscles. It notes doctors call it anemia and that weakening summer weather often triggers it.
An old newspaper ad touts Scott's Emulsion of cod liver oil with hypophosphites as a digestible tonic for weak digestion and summer use. It claims the product makes poor blood rich and is easy to take when cod liver oil or ordinary foods disagree.
