Lucius Hill a Bodie laborer refused to join the local union. A union delegation placed him in a wagon and drove him to Hank Blanchard's urging him to stay away. Hank cited scripture and urged leaving Bodie. Hill’s friends demanded his return, but the group agreed he should not come back, and he traveled toward Hawthorne on Saturday’s stage seeking quieter surroundings.

Southern Pacific's Mammoth Work on Utah Nevada Line
The Salt Lake Tribune reports major railroad work east of the Southern Pacific from Ogden to Reno. About 4000 men and 1000 horses will build, straighten curves, raise track, and grade, with camps along Utah and Nevada deserts. Upgrades between Lucia and Ogden are temporary. the cut-off will deliver a straight, easy line to the Sierra foothills.
