Indian Murder Reported in Elko County Pole Canyon

Wells Herald says Charley Morse a Shoshone Indian was found dead July 10 in Pole canyon Ruby valley. Poker Johnnie, another Indian, is accused. Morse and Johnnie were seen together intoxicated days earlier. Morse’s saddle horse found near the scene. Morse likely choked. Johnnie was arrested then discharged for insufficient evidence.

Earl Russell Convicted in Lords over Bigamy

London dispatch reports Earl Russell arraigned in the House of Lords on bigamy charges and pleading guilty after long debate on jurisdiction. The trial featured medieval ceremonies and a one hour argument. Russell and Countess Summerville claimed no wrongdoing, saying they followed Nevada legal advice. The peers imposed three months imprisonment, with Holliday prison units prepared for his arrival in a spacious cell with private provisions.

Morgan Denies Steel Strike Settlement Rumor

Telegrams report J. P. Morgan denies any settlement of the steel strike. The yacht Venitzia capsized in Long Island Sound. owner Arthur C. Colburn and his daughters Ida and Annette Colburn Captain Flint and a sailor drowned. A tramp rider Ed. Laundry burned alive near Boise as the train pulled him along. Mrs Emma Goldstein near San Bernardino survived after an eagle seized and carried off her six month old baby then was killed in the cliff fight. she rescued the child. Secretary Long rejected McClay’s History of the Navy volume three for charges against Admiral Schley.

Winnemucca Water and Light Seeks Bids for Trench and Pipe

The Winnemucca Water and Light Company invites sealed bids for a four mile trench from the lower to upper reservoir two feet by two and a half feet deep to be finished in thirty days. A second contract for four miles of pipe hauling from the Southern Pacific depot will be let separately or jointly. Bids due ten days from July 8 1901, sent to Joseph Rougan superintendent.

Redemption of Humboldt County Courthouse Bonds 1901

Notice from Humboldt County Nevada announces three thousand sixty seven dollars and twenty two cents in the County Treasury to redeem Courthouse Bonds issued in 1895. Bonds numbers 16 and 17 will be paid upon presentation to the County Treasurer and interest will cease thirty days from the date of notice. Clerk J. T. Dunn signs and seals the notice.
