Friends of B J Cosgrove urged the Nevada board of pardons to release him after a 25 year confinement for a 1870 Elko county murder case. Cosgrove, then 27, faced life, with intercessions from prominent California figures, but the bid failed. First underground bicycle trip in region reported
The Virginia Chronicle notes the first recorded underground bicycle journey in the area. A party including C. C. Hopkins, Wm. Cann Jr and wife, and the writer rode from the Sutro tunnel mouth to the 1750 level shaft station about four and a half miles away on a two seated tandem and two single safety bicycles. The ride took about 50 minutes and the riders were hoisted to the surface. Governor Jones comments on Nevada business. A sale notice for R. H. Cowles’s Wadsworth grocery store.
