Court saga stains a Chinaman and Chinawoman case
Two months ago a Chinese couple married in a courthouse before Judge Bonnifield then traveled to Cortez District where the groom worked. Bow Ling the Chinese interpreter, from Carson, swore the Chinawoman stole gold coins jewelry valued at 340 and 75 respectively. An officer arrested them for grand larceny but the initial complaint was dropped and a second claim swore in Ormedy County. Evidence showed an attempt to return the woman to Carson who had been held as a slave before marriage. Bow Ling testified he saw neither the coins nor the woman before arrival and he faces perjury charges. The matter drew comments about attorney Wellington Stewart and the press, with Stewart denying allegations.
