The advertisement extols Syrup of Figs as a healthful laxative that cleanses the system, relieves colds headaches and fevers, and acts on kidneys liver and bowels without weakening them. It notes the product is made by the California Fig Syrup Co and sold by druggists in 50¢ and 81 bottles with the company name on every package.

The notice specifies operating hours from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and evening hours on Sundays, with other morning slots and periods for P. M. around 7 and 9. G. W. Rutherford is identified as postmaster.
A reader note explains a simple air test for lung endurance and links it to public health. The piece then lists numerous bills approved by Humboldt County Commission on January 7 1895 including salaries road work indigent care hospital and county services with itemized amounts and recipients.
