German Steamers Detained and Cargo Searched at Aden

Berlin reports the Imperial Mail steamer General detained at Aden by British troops to search its cargo. The General belongs to the German East African Line, tied to the Bundesrath group previously seized by the Magicienne off Delagoa Bay. In Rome the Kanzler, with Dutch and Russian Red Cross detachments aboard, discharged contraband cargo at Naples, belonging to the same company as the Pundsrath and General.

Missionary Killed by Chinese Outlaws

Pekin reports Rev. Mr. Brooks of the Church Missionary Society stationed at Ping Yin in Shan Tung province was captured December 13 and murdered by Boxers, a seditious group accused of attacking villages and killing native Christians. Provincial cavalry reached the scene too late to save him.
