Filipino assault on Santa Mesa ends in American victory
In a night clash at Santa Mesa three Filipino attackers tried to pass Nebraska, Montana, and North Dakota outposts. Corporal Greely killed one and wounded another, as insurgents launched a multi‑point assault with siege guns. American forces including the Monadnock and reinforcements repelled the attack, routing the enemy by early afternoon and seizing water mains and villages. Colonel Duboce and Major McConville noted losses on the American side, while insurgent casualties were described as several thousand.
