Baby Engine Powers Southern Pacific Freight Trains
Southern Pacific received from the East the largest engine built for the road weighing eighty tons about ten tons more than the largest hog engine. It will be called the Baby and used to haul freight between Colton and Beaumont and Palm Springs with twenty two inch cylinders and twenty six inch stroke. Capacity is fifty percent higher than any other engine on the line. Government Forestry Reserve includes Lake Tahoe headwaters and tributaries of American and Cosumnes rivers and upper Truckee river. Public views may be submitted to the general land office.
