Frantic news from Frankfort Kentucky reports Governor Goebel is very near death after hours of oxygen support. His brother Arthur arrived from Arizona and is at the bedside with Dr J F Taliaferro and a Methodist minister in attendance as death becomes imminent.
Frankfort Kentucky February 3 Republicans move to organize the legislature at London as Democrats hold Frankfort. Campaign Manager Sebree and several lawmakers head to London while Adjutant General Collier ships rifles and ammunition for potential emergencies. Governor Goebel's condition worsens with nausea hiccoughs and morphine injections as doctors warn time is short.

Field Marshal Roberts says 40 High Landers captured at Magersfontein are prisoners at Pretoria. Major Bathurst reports 20,000 Boers at Tugela and Buller could break through at heavy cost.
Berlin reports the German Foreign Office denies Dr. Leyds of the Transvaal is seeking German intervention. He declines to discuss possible action and says he is under medical treatment. Leyds shows a Boers Mauser specimen, barrel wood encased to prevent heating.
