A St Paul Globe tale recounts Charles Way recalling a harsh Dawson winter on the west fork of Stew art river in 04 and 95 with Sitka companions. They hired Indians to bring supplies via Dyea and relied on tallow candles. On Ort 22 the cold made candles burn dim then extinguish despite wick burning, proving candles worthless in real cold.
