Senate Ratifies Hay Pauncefote Pact In Session
In executive session yesterday the Senate approved the amended Hay Pauncefote treaty by a 55 to 18 vote. Also reported are remarks by Senator Jones of Arkansas denying a resignation of the Democratic National Committee chairmanship. In San Rafael, a libel case led to the arrest of a dozen men in the courtroom with revolvers seized. Atlantic dispatches report worsening conditions in the Chinese province and looming anti foreign outbreaks. Kruger addressed a meeting in Amsterdam criticizing Britain and urging continental intervention. Cape Colony reports invasion spread with 1,000 troops dispatched north. Lincoln, Nebraska reports a failed attempt to rob the State treasury with shots fired at the night watchman. The era of six million dollars spent by Union Pacific to improve its track is described as a landmark achievement.
