The Reno Journal reports that the Senator Mining Company’s hoisting works at Steam boat were shut down prompting sale of machinery. Authorities speculate stock calls and depressed prices. assays at cessation near 300 dollars per ton claim, while others say the largest assay was just over five dollars, with stockholders opposed to further development. The Senator Gold Mining Company bonded about 425000 dollars to secure ground around Steamboat for extensive development and a large hoisting plant.

Southern Pacific invites bids to rebuild Central Pacific main line
The Examiner reports Southern Pacific management invites bids for reconstructing seventy five miles of Central Pacific main line to reduce grades and curves as part of a modernization plan. Grades between Wadsworth and Ogden will be cut to at most half a percent. Rumor says Salt Lake may become Central Pacific terminus instead of Ogden.
