In February 1861 a great English coast gale wrecked eighty one vessels at Hartlepool. The Rising Sun sank, lifeboats rescued crew, rocket apparatus saved a sailor boy who survived to tell his mother’s prayers had saved him. He later returned to Northumberland home.
