Carson Kelley Store Trial Ends In Robbery Connection

In Carson the Kelley brothers quarrel over a store started in 1894. Hugh Kelley testified the money came from a buried stash and from a Virginia and Truckee railroad robbery. A verdict found the money stolen, giving Joe Kelley the property. V T Railroad seeks $3,500 plus interest. Judge Mack set Septembers first for argument on motions. Columbia Defeats Constitution for Eighth Time

Condensed telegraph items note Columbia beat the Constitution for the eighth time while Shamrock leads betting in New York cups. Flynn was shot and killed at Susanville by Dr. W E Dozier after a card game dispute. Hoey and other customs officials at Nogales were arrested on smuggling charges. A proposed Rocky Mountain Northwestern line will connect Billings to North Dakota, forming a continental circuit from Boston to San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Wheat Straw urged for cattle feed by former state official

W. Edwarde of Larned Kansas ex Secretary of State urges farmers to use wheat straw as feed. He owns 300 head of cattle to winter on straw and Kaffir corn. He notes straw is worth 2 per ton but value increases when stacked with Kaffir corn as cattle readily eat it and the excess saccharine matter is absorbed by the straw.
