Nevada Town News Mixes Local Notes and Oddities
Stone House figures, a mayor, and a Democratic vice presidential name guide a kaleidoscope of county life. Firewood from Walker lake, roof removal at the depot, and mine bullion data sit beside a tale of a town misdeed, tribal curiosities, world height records, and first white births in Nevada. Earlier items cover local arrests, a jail escape, postal notices, and tamales for sale.

Dying in Poverty: Sydney Buckingham Lingers in Oakland
A marked Oakland Times copy reports Sydney Buckingham near death at his home in Oakland. Once a generous merchant and early Marysville resident, he aided partners John C. Fall and John H. Kinkead, funded campaign expenses for Nevada governor candidate Kinkead, and aided others, but his health declined and his once broad circle forgets his kindness as he nears death with his devoted wife beside him.

Born 1840 in Memphis, he pursued law in Virginia City before turning to mining, serving as superintendent of several mines including Savage and Justice. He will be buried in San Francisco.
