A historic copy of the U S Constitution kept in a steel safe at the State Department library was opened for a reporter as plans were made to send a facsimile to the Atlanta exposition. The engrossed four page document bears the signatures of Washington Hamilton and others, with the ink still legible though faded, unlike the later Declaration which suffered damage.
