New York April 11—William K Vanderbilt's country house Idle Hour at Oakdale Long Island was completely destroyed by fire. Built eight years ago for William K Vanderbilt, the home housed Mr Vanderbilt Mrs Vir ginia Fair and about a dozen servants who escaped unharmed. The blaze started in the cellar about 2 46 AM and engulfed the brick stone and terra cotta structure within an hour. Loss estimated between 260000 and 300000.
Thirteen men died when a derrick overturned during construction on the Harlem River bridge at One Hundred and Thirty-Second Street in New York City. Ten drowned. three died of injuries. About ten drownings are confirmed as reliable reports, with nine injured. The accident occurred as workers were swept into the river. Further details awaited.
