Advertisements claim Syrup of Figs provides comfort and health benefits by cleansing the system and relieving constipation without weakening organs. The text attributes broad appeal to the medical field and notes it is manufactured by the California Fig Syrup Co with bottles priced 50 cents and 1 dollar.
Time tables note tickets sold for travel to an eastern pointe with cheering baggage. Travelers insurance tickets also sold, agent J A Ferrano listed.
A late mint director report says 19 570 silver dollars dated 1804 were coined that year, now fewer than a dozen remain worth a fortune. Also 150 000 half dollars were minted, with only one known today. The fate of that year’s silver coinage is an unsolved government mystery. Thirty two years later only 1000 of the 1836 dollars were struck, yet a single coin can fetch a small fortune, though a $1000 won’t buy an 1804.
