Public Subsidy Argument for Railroad Aid in 1909 Township
Lake township and Silver Lake valuations for 1909 show three-fourths of 1 percent taxes of 4 726.95 and 1 004.25 respectively. The argument contends subsidies to the C. W. & M. rail line were prudent, noting vast public interest, tax distribution benefits, higher property values, and the proved payoff of aiding construction. It argues railroads act as public highways, with country bearing most taxes while towns receive less, urging continued support for better transportation.
